ea9df0eede Fix path generation when merging file has period in key

file-to-be-merged. It does not escape them if they contain a dot, as
the path-expressions document mentions is necessary.

Add in a test for this condition. Verified it fails without the fix.

84de9c078d Improved handling of numeric keys
When there is no match at a given path, numeric keys are assumed to be strings.
To create an array '+' must be used.

e.g: yq n thing[+].cat fred
will create an array under thing, whereas
yq n thing[0].cat fred
will create a map under thing, with a key '0'

The delete (short option "d") will delete the YAML subtree at the
provided path in the specified file (or STDIN), if it the node exists.

More complex support is currently omitted, for example:

  - deleting common elements from all elements of an array

86639acf70 Task: Simplify development
The base directory has all shell scripts in scripts/
and all example/test files in examples/.
A Makefile provides all the commands with helpful information.
If a developer simply types `make` then vendor is properly updated,
the code is formatted, linted, tested, built, acceptance test run,
and installed.

Linting errors resolved.
Ignored test case (`TestParsePath`) updated to work as expected.

our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body
size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression,
level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal
appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
## Our Standards
Examples of behavior that contributes to creating a positive environment
include:
* Using welcoming and inclusive language
* Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
* Gracefully accepting constructive criticism
* Focusing on what is best for the community
* Showing empathy towards other community members
Examples of unacceptable behavior by participants include:
* The use of sexualized language or imagery and unwelcome sexual attention or
advances
* Trolling, insulting/derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
* Public or private harassment
* Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or electronic
address, without explicit permission
* Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a
professional setting
## Our Responsibilities
Project maintainers are responsible for clarifying the standards of acceptable
behavior and are expected to take appropriate and fair corrective action in
response to any instances of unacceptable behavior.
Project maintainers have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or
reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions
that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, or to ban temporarily or
permanently any contributor for other behaviors that they deem inappropriate,
threatening, offensive, or harmful.
## Scope
This Code of Conduct applies both within project spaces and in public spaces
when an individual is representing the project or its community. Examples of
representing a project or community include using an official project e-mail
address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed
representative at an online or offline event. Representation of a project may be
further defined and clarified by project maintainers.
## Enforcement

reported by contacting the project team at mikefarah@gmail.com. All
complaints will be reviewed and investigated and will result in a response that
is deemed necessary and appropriate to the circumstances. The project team is
obligated to maintain confidentiality with regard to the reporter of an incident.
Further details of specific enforcement policies may be posted separately.
Project maintainers who do not follow or enforce the Code of Conduct in good
faith may face temporary or permanent repercussions as determined by other
members of the project's leadership.

```yaml
b:
c: 2
```
then
```bash
yaml r sample.yaml b.c
```
will output the value of '2'.
### Reading from STDIN
Given a sample.yaml file of:
```bash
cat sample.yaml | yaml r - b.c
```
will output the value of '2'.
### Splat
Given a sample.yaml file of:
```yaml
---
bob:
item1:
cats: bananas
item2:
cats: apples
```

You can give an index to access a specific element:
e.g.: given a sample file of
```yaml
b:
e:
- name: fred
value: 3
- name: sam
value: 4
```
then
```
yaml r sample.yaml b.e[1].name
```
will output 'sam'
### Array Splat
e.g.: given a sample file of

b:
e:
- name: fred
value: 3
- name: sam
value: 4
```
then
```
yaml r sample.yaml b.e[*].name
```
will output:
```
- fred
- sam
```
### Updating multiple values with a script
Given a sample.yaml file of:
```yaml
b:
c: 2
e:
- name: Billy Bob
a lightweight and portable command-line YAML processor
The aim of the project is to be the [jq](https://github.com/stedolan/jq) or sed of yaml files.
## New version!
V3 is officially out - if you've been using v2 and want/need to upgrade, checkout the [upgrade guide](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/upgrading-from-v2).
## Install
### [Download the latest binary](https://github.com/mikefarah/yq/releases/latest)
### MacOS:
```
and a script update_instructions.yaml of:
```yaml
b.c: 3
b.e[0].name: Howdy Partner
brew install yq
```
then
### Ubuntu and other Linux distros supporting `snap` packages:
```
snap install yq
```
#### Snap notes
`yq` installs with with [_strict confinement_](https://docs.snapcraft.io/snap-confinement/6233) in snap, this means it doesn't have direct access to root files. To read root files you can:
```
sudo cat /etc/myfile | yq r - a.path
```
And to write to a root file you can either use [sponge](https://linux.die.net/man/1/sponge):
```
sudo cat /etc/myfile | yq w - a.path value | sudo sponge /etc/myfile
```
or write to a temporary file:
```
sudo cat /etc/myfile | yq w - a.path value | sudo tee /etc/myfile.tmp
sudo mv /etc/myfile.tmp /etc/myfile
rm /etc/myfile.tmp
```
### On Ubuntu 16.04 or higher from Debian package:
```sh
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys CC86BB64
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rmescandon/yq
sudo apt update
sudo apt install yq -y
```
Supported by @rmescandon
### Go Get:
```
GO111MODULE=on go get github.com/mikefarah/yq/v3
```
## Run with Docker
Oneshot use:
```bash
yaml w -s update_instructions.yaml sample.yaml
```
will output:
```yaml
b:
c: 3
e:
- name: Howdy Partner
docker run --rm -v ${PWD}:/workdir mikefarah/yq yq [flags] <command> FILE...
```
Run commands interactively:
```bash
docker run --rm -it -v ${PWD}:/workdir mikefarah/yq sh
```
It can be useful to have a bash function to avoid typing the whole docker command:
```bash
yq() {
docker run --rm -i -v ${PWD}:/workdir mikefarah/yq yq $@
}
```
## Features
- Written in portable go, so you can download a lovely dependency free binary
- [Deep read a yaml file with a given path expression](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/read#basic)
- [List matching paths of a given path expression](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/read#path-only)
- Update a yaml file given a [path expression](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/write-update#basic) or [script file](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/write-update#basic)
- Update creates any missing entries in the path on the fly
- Deeply [compare](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/compare) yaml files
- Keeps yaml formatting and comments when updating
- [Validate a yaml file](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/validate)
- Create a yaml file given a [deep path and value](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/create#creating-a-simple-yaml-file) or a [script file](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/create#creating-using-a-create-script)
- [Prefix a path to a yaml file](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/prefix)
- [Convert to/from json to yaml](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/usage/convert)
- [Pipe data in by using '-'](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/read#from-stdin)
- [Merge](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/merge) multiple yaml files with various options for [overriding](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/merge#overwrite-values) and [appending](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/merge#append-values-with-arrays)
- Supports multiple documents in a single yaml file for [reading](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/read#multiple-documents), [writing](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/write-update#multiple-documents) and [merging](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/commands/merge#multiple-documents)
## [Usage](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/)
Check out the [documentation](https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/) for more detailed and advanced usage.
yq (3.1-1) eoan; urgency=medium
* Keeps yaml comments and formatting, can specify yaml tags when updating.
* Handles anchors
* Can print out matching paths and values when splatting
* JSON output works for all commands
* Yaml files with multiple documents are printed out as one JSON
document per line.
* Deep splat (**) to match arbitrary paths
* Update scripts file format has changed to be more powerful
